Description

The Combined Jewish Philanthropies Scholarship (CJP) Fund of Greater Boston was established in 1973. The CJP College Scholarship Committee awards grants to eligible* applicants.

*Eligibility requirements are as follows:

  • This is primarily a needs-based scholarship. The FAFSA SAI (Student Aid Index) is the starting point for determination of need.  The CJP Scholarship Committee makes its decisions on the basis of economic need, followed by merit. Before applying to The Fund, applicants are expected to have exhausted all other available resources including college financial aid awards as well as federal, state, and other private funds.
  • Undergraduate students attending two-year or four-year accredited institutions are eligible to apply. There are also limited funds for graduate students and vocational certificate programs.
  • Under certain circumstances, some one-year Israel programs are considered.
  • Applicant must have resided in the Greater Boston area for a minimum of two years at the time of application. The city/town in which the household income-tax filer resides is the basis for determining residency. Boston-area college residence does not fulfill this requirement.
  • Primary consideration is given to Jewish students.
  • All applicants, new or returning, must have maintained a minimum GPA of 2.0, for each semester, and on a cumulative basis.
  • International students qualify to apply if they have an 1-551C, 1-551, or 1-94 status (student visas are not acceptable).
  • All applicants are required to complete the 2025-26 FAFSA.

To complete your application, you must complete the following tasks (the website will take you through each step):

  1. Application Form
  2. Upload most recent official High School or College Transcript
  3. Upload at least one letter of Recommendation
  4. Upload household most current Federal and State Income Tax Returns (summary page only)
  5. Upload: (FAFSA) Free Application for Federal Student Aid
  6. Upload Personal Statement
  7. Schedule Meeting to Review your application (for new applicants only, and will be done via video chat)

While you are filling out the application, the tasks to complete will be visible on the left hand side of your screen.  You can check on the status of your tasks there.  ALL TASKS MUST BE COMPLETED IN FULL; THE APPLICATION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OTHERWISE. If you are waiting for information or documents at the time of the application deadline, please let Joan Blackman, Director of Scholarships, know at scholarships@jbbbs.org.

Please note that completing an application for a scholarship does not guarantee an award, nor is having received an award in the prior year a guarantee of future award or award amount.
